Can I book a Roatán tour the same day my ship docks?

Plenty of people decide once they are already looking at the island. The ship's excursion desk quoted a price that made them hesitate, or the plan for a quiet day on board stopped sounding good the moment they saw the water.

How to do it

Send one message with three things: the name of your ship, how many people, and what you feel like doing. If you do not know what you want, say how many hours you have and we will tell you what fits.

You can also just walk up. Our representative stands outside the terminal exit with a MONKEYLALA TOURS sign. If there is space, you leave with the next group.

What changes when you book the same day

You pay cash to the guide instead of by card. There is no time to run a card payment and confirm it before a vehicle has to leave, and it saves you the 5.4% transfer fee anyway. Bring US dollars, which everyone on the island takes.

Availability is whatever is left. On a day with one ship in port you can usually pick anything. On a day with three ships and four thousand passengers, the vehicles fill early and what is left by ten in the morning is not the full catalogue.

Departure times are set by the groups already scheduled. Booking ahead lets you choose the hour; booking on the day means taking the next departure that has room.

Which tours usually still have space

The land tours hold up better late in the morning. ATV, the monkey and sloth park, the island culture tour, horseback riding on the beach. They run more vehicles and fill more gradually.

The boat tours fill first. Snorkel trips and the catamaran have fixed capacity per boat and a fixed number of departures, so by mid-morning on a busy day they are often gone.

Anything that combines two activities into six hours needs to leave early. If your ship docks at ten and leaves at five, a six hour tour booked at eleven does not fit.

How much time you actually need

Look at your all aboard time and subtract one hour. That hour is the margin we keep so nothing about traffic or a slow group puts you at risk of missing the ship. Whatever is left is what we can plan with.

A ship docking at seven with an all aboard at four gives you eight usable hours, and everything we run fits. Docking at eleven with all aboard at five gives you five, and that means one activity rather than a combination.

When booking ahead is worth it

If you are four or more, if you want a specific tour rather than whatever has space, or if your ship is one of three in port that day, book before you arrive. It costs nothing to reserve and it removes the part of the morning where you stand at the terminal gate finding out what is left.

For everyone else, deciding on the day works fine. We would rather take you at ten in the morning than have you spend the day on the ship because you did not plan it three weeks ago.
